The Brick in Fort Lauderdale's Riverfront complex gets absolutely slammed on Thursday nights, when it appears that just about everyone under the age of 25 is conscientiously groomed and ostentatiously clad to hang out at this little open-air nightclub. Backward baseball caps and, of course, signs of Christian Audigier's flashy touch on modern male fashion are everywhere, and the girls are sporting glamorous long hair à la Megan Fox and sexy off-the-shoulder tops.

A glance around the room reveals a pretty balanced male-to-female ratio at the club, where nods of approval and fist bumps indicate that patrons are into the scene. Three well-tanned dancers in lingerie, with touches of fetish style, tote bottles around the rectangular bar top dispensing shots of sweet alcoholic fluid to patrons willing to throw a few bucks at them. It's mostly the young men who drink these because ladies drink free on Thursday nights. Many of the young ladies at The Brick can hold their own against the attractiveness of the dancers.

In the back of the club, a DJ booth spills out mixes of dance hits at an astronomical number of beats per minute, and the dance floor is crowded with couples and singles, all pressed together in one writhing erotic throng, singing along to lyrics from dance hits past and present such as "Pump this Party," "Around the World" and "Show Me Love."

Wednesdays nights at The Brick are a bit different. Indie rockers who like to dance to rock and electro call the place home during the Society Wednesday party, overseen by Andie Rifit, also known as DJ Sweet Swirl, who's been involved with indie dance parties in Broward, such as the now defunct Phoenix, for years. Society Wednesdays currently shares the space with the athletic singles of WAKA Kickball, an adult kickball league.

On Friday and Saturday nights, according to owner David Hartman, the crowd skews slightly older than on Thursday nights. "On the weekends, our crowd ranges in age from 25 to 35," he says. "Next door, we also have The Parlor, which is popular with the older crowd. It's a little more upscale and that's where people go when The Brick gets too hectic.
